A Day in the Life of a Gas Engineer in Fife
If you’ve ever had your heating go out on a freezing morning in Cupar or waited days for a callback from a national gas company, you know how important it is to have a reliable local gas engineer in Fife you can trust.
At Letsgo TNT Gas & Heating Engineers, we’re proud to be that team.
But what does our day actually look like? It’s not just installing boilers and handing out quotes — it’s about solving problems, delivering honest advice, and keeping homes across Fife warm and safe, one job at a time.
In this post, we’re pulling back the curtain on what a real day on the job looks like — from early-morning breakdowns in Ladybank to smart thermostat installs in Cupar and landlord certificates in Glenrothes.
So whether you’re curious about how we work, thinking of booking a boiler installation, or just want to know what sets a top-rated local engineer apart — this behind-the-scenes look is for you.
Let’s go…
☕ 8:00 AM – First Coffee, First Call
Every good day starts with a strong coffee — and in our line of work, it rarely gets finished while it’s still hot. As a gas engineer in Fife, mornings kick off early, because that’s when customers need us most.
Many of our customers prefer messaging us on WhatsApp, which we love — it makes it easy for them to send photos or explain the issue in their own time, without long waits on the phone. Our day begins with a quick scan of overnight messages and scheduled bookings.
First job? A boiler breakdown in Ladybank. The family called in last night — no hot water and chilly temperatures. By 7:45, we’re loading the van and heading out.

🔍 8:30 AM – Diagnosing a Fault in Ladybank
Arriving on-site, we’re greeted by a chilly hallway and a very relieved homeowner. The boiler, an Ideal Logic model, is showing an ignition fault. This is a common callout — especially when systems haven’t been serviced recently or have worn components.
After carrying out a safety check, we isolate the issue: faulty ignition electrodes. These are small parts, but when they fail, the boiler won’t fire up.
Within 45 minutes, we’ve replaced the electrodes, run a full diagnostic test, reset the system, and restored both hot water and heating. Just in time for school runs and showers.
This is what local service means — same-day response, clear pricing, and work done properly the first time.

📱 10:00 AM – Virtual Boiler Quote in St Andrews
Our next task isn’t in-person — it’s a virtual boiler survey via WhatsApp video. The customer in St Andrews is thinking of replacing their old combi boiler but can’t take time off work.
With WhatsApp, we walk them through the process step-by-step:
-
Check the boiler location
-
Assess flue positioning and pipework
-
Understand hot water demand
-
Answer their questions in real time
By lunchtime, they’ll receive a fixed-price boiler quote including installation, warranty, and even a FREE Hive thermostat, part of our limited-time offer.
This remote service is perfect for busy homeowners — especially those comparing quotes or just starting their research.

🔧 11:00 AM – Customer In Need Of a Gas Engineer in Fife
Called out by a customer in Glenrothes for a boiler repair. Upon inspection, we noticed that there was a leak at the right hand flow unit just behind the pump. It was one of the jobs that every gas engineer dreads as it can be tricky to replace the part. We drained down the water out of the boiler to allow us to remove the old part. Geting good access was tricky but after a few minutes we managed to get the flow unit out. Looking at the flow unit, we noticed a crack in the plastic which was causing the leak in the first place. Some manufactureres like Worcester use plastic parts for their boilers whereas others like Vaillant or Baxi mainly use brass which obviously is more robust and less likely to leak. After an hour and 15 minutes, the replacement of the flow unit on this boiler was completed and the water filled back up again and tested for leaks.Need a competent gas engineer in Fife? Click here.
🧰 2:30 PM – Landlord Safety Certificate in Glenrothes
After a spot of lunch, we’re off to a rental property in Glenrothes for an annual boiler service and Gas Safety Certificate (CP12). Landlords are legally required to have their gas appliances checked every 12 months by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
We complete:
-
Visual inspection of gas pipework
-
Testing the boiler and flue emissions
-
Bleeding radiators
-
Verifying carbon monoxide detectors
-
Producing a digital certificate on-site
We email the certificate directly to the landlord — quick, professional, and hassle-free.

Scheduling maintenance plans
It’s the small things done well that earn us 5-star reviews — like reminding customers when their next service is due or checking in a week after an install.
